This actually happened. . . .

IAN: “Keith, who would win in a fight: Liam Neeson or Liam Neeson?”

ME: “Which Liam Neesons?”

IAN: “Schindler’s List Liam Neeson or Taken Liam Neeson.”

ME: “Taken Liam Neeson.”

IAN: “I dunno. Schindler’s List Neeson beat the Nazis.”

ME: “Not with his fists!”

I need to take care of some quick promotional business here and get it out of the way. Bear with me.

First, there’s a new episode of The Trip (the longest and maybe second most comprehensible one ever!) out today. It’s about our memories of the original Nintendo Entertainment System. Do you love the Power Glove? Of course you do! It’s so bad! So why not download the episode from iTunes or directly off the website. The link is over on the side bar. Super easy.

Secondly, Sweetmint (the feature film I co-wrote that is now filming) now has a fan page on Facebook. Just type Sweetmint into the search bar on the home page and you can sign up as a fan to get the major updates. There’s less than a month of filming left, so get in on the ground floor.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the Sweetmint production blog. You can find a link to that in the blogroll on the sidebar as well. Christian has been doing a very good job of keeping the thing updated with the latest news, and I’ve been doing less of a good job with throwing my two cents in on the thing. I think I’d have more to say if I was able to be there for the shoot, but the realities of finances and work being what they are prevent me. This makes me sad and I think about it every day, but I suppose that’s something you have to get used to in this business. Most writers don’t get to spend enough time on set.

Last thing I want to mention is that I’ve been keeping up with all the news about the San Diego Comic Con through Twitter and IGN. I must say that I’m just insanely jealous of everyone who went there. Pleasant trips to all my friends who are out there: Tony Guagliardo, Dave Wachter, Pat Loika, Aaron Ikeda, and John “Super Ugly” Williams.

It should also be noted that Super Ugly was the winner of a contest through G4 to win a free trip the Con as well as a bunch of fun swag from Dark Horse. He’s also going to be doing some on-camera work there for Attack of the Show’s coverage of the Con. Crazy!

If you see Ugs out there, tell him I say hi, and treat him good all.

On Facebook there’s a meme going around asking people to list 15 books they thought would always stick with them (you have to be able to think of them in 15 minutes).  I thought I’d share my results here as well, so here they are in no particular order.

Dreaming Pachinko
Tokyo Suckerpunch
The Maltese Falcon
American Gods
Glory Road
Mere Christianity
If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B-Movie Actor
Rats, Bats, and Vats
The Best of H.P. Lovecraft
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay
The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl
Men of Tomorrow
The War of the Worlds
Fahrenheit 451

Keith:  So I think I figured it out.

Keith:  You’re actually Louis the 14th . . . sometimes called The Sun King.

Keith: You’re hiding in our century in the body of an immigrant male prostitute to escape your ancient foe the Grim Reaper.

Keith: You’ll be on your run until you can find the ancient forgotten city of Shangri La . . . where in its computer archives lay the key to your salvation.

Luke Foster:  Way to steal my fanfic idea.

On Sunday a party of four nerds got into a car and went to Screaming Tiki Con in Cleveland. I choose to believe that I was the leader of said party because I choose to believe such things about myself. Got a problem with that?

I’m not going to go into too much detail about the Con itself as there really isn’t much detail to go into. It was tiny and I believe that almost all of the money was spent on booking their celebrity guests. The dealers room was just sad, and there really wasn’t an artist alley to speak of.

The guests were really awesome though. Helen Slater (looking better today than ever), Michael Rosenbaum (who was nowhere to be seen), Daniel Logan (who is much taller now), Ray Park (who could kill me without much effort at all), Edward James Olmos (who I’m still star-struck by), and Sam Witwer (who blasted us with Force Lightning).

Didn’t get much chance to talk to Dan Logan, but he seems a nice guy, and says to get the word out for him to play Fett in the live-action show. Lucas listens to fans, and Logan is definitely up for it.

Ray Park is such a gentleman, and nothing like what you expect having seen him in Episode One. He’s very unassuming. He says that he’s definitely up for playing Iron Fist if Marvel wants him, and I must say I really like the idea.

Edward James Olmos – the Admiral. This man was pure class. You could tell that he was tired after three days of convention, but he didn’t let that deter him from being friendly, gracious, and just awesome to meet. He will apparently be directing some episodes of Caprica.

Sam Witwer was so cool. You can tell in all his actions that he’s just one of us who made good. He loves this stuff and it’s amazing. We got a chance to have a fairly lengthy conversation with him about Force Unleashed, gaming, The Old Republic, Star Wars films, voice acting, and even sound mixing. Just a really nice guy.

The other thing of note was I was drawn randomly to participate in the “Name the Movie” game at the Con, where I must say I schooled the room. For this I won a copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special. Hell yeah.

I’ll put up a copy of the photo with Olmos when I get mine. In the meantime, enjoy some Ray Park . . .

Just after this photo Ray killed 17 ninjas.

Night of the Day of the Invasion of the Ant People July 8, 2009

“Argentine ants living in vast numbers across Europe, the US and Japan belong to the same inter-related colony, and will refuse to fight one another.

The colony may be the largest of its type ever known for any insect species, and could rival humans in the scale of its world domination.”

I, for one, welcome our new ant overlords. I would like to point out that I have mandibles that could be considered helpful to the mega-colony. I would be especially useful in rounding up human dissenters to be put to work in tunnel-digging.

I tripped over a fan cord and a shelf of Mighty Muggs came cascading down onto the floor. They were fine, as nothing can damage the resilient little bastards, it’s just an unsettling sound.

I can’t help but think this never would have happened if my house wasn’t a series of unpredictable oblique angles. It’s like trying to live in an Escher painting.

In other news, the most insane film trailer I’ve ever seen has come out . . .

This film is my Grail.

“What the HELL did you just have me watch?” – Luke Foster

Is it a gross alien blob monster? Apparently, not. Science believes it to be a colony of sludge worms in the Raleigh sewer system, but look at the pulsing!!!

“Dude, I don’t even want to know what that is. It’s like something from one of Warren Ellis’ sex fantasies.” – Luke Foster
