I already went into a lengthier preview of 2011 in film in an episode of Cine-Rama. However I didn’t get a chance to conclusively state which films I was looking forward to the most. They are as follows:

Your Highness
Director: David Gordon Green
Starring: James Franco and Natalie Portman
Release Date: April 8
This comedy appears to be riffing on the fantasy films of the 80s. Should be a lot of fun.

Director: Zach Snyder
Starring: Abbie Cornish and Vanessa Hudgens
Release Date: March 25
I don’t know if this movie actually has a plot, and to be honest I really don’t care. What it is guaranteed to have though is crazy spectacle.

Green Lantern
Director: Martin Campbell
Starring: Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively
Release Date: June 17
I must admit I’m a little worried about the Earth-bound aspects of this film, but all of the alien worlds and creatures look wonderfully designed.

The Muppets
Director: James Bobin
Starring: Jason Segel and The Muppets
Release Date: November 23
This one doesn’t really need explanation, does it?

Dirctor: Greg Mottola
Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Seth Rogen
Release Date: March 18
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in a geeky sci-fi road trip comedy? I’m there. And it comes out on my birthday. Happy birthday to me.

The Adjustment Bureau
Director: George Nolfi
Starring: Matt Damon and Emily Blunt
Release Date: March 4
Phillip K. Dick adaptations usually lead to films that are at the very least thought-provoking or entertaining (Total Recall and A Scanner Darkly), to the truly stunning (Blade Runner and Minority Report). This film is about the greatest battle of all. Free will.

Director: Kenneth Branagh
Starring: Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman
Release Date: May 6
Hiring Kenneth Branagh to direct this was the right choice. He will be able to give weight to the mythological aspects of the film.

Captain America: The First Avenger
Director: Joe Johnston
Starring: Chris Evans and Hugo Weaving
Release Date: July 22
A period tale detailing Captain America’s exploits during World War Two, plus a lead-in to The Avengers.

Director: William Eubank
Starring: Gunner Wright and Wesley Sellick
Release Date: February 2
Sometimes you just get a feeling from a film preview and you know it was meant for you. The last time this happened for me was “Moon” so I am interested in seeing what comes of this. This is a psychological science fiction drama thriller about the human need for connection, featuring the music of Angels and Airwaves, a project they spearheaded.

Directed by: Duncan Jones
Starring: Jake Gyllenhall and Vera Farmiga
Release Date: April 1
After how blown away I was by “Moon” I have high hopes for this.
